KING ARTHUR FLOUR IS THE OFFICIAL FLOUR OF THE FOOD DEPARTMENT

Rules & Regulations

  1. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED. ALL ENTRY FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 28, 2016.
  2. **ALL FOOD ENTRIES SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE FAMILY LIVING CENTER BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 10:00 A.M. AND 11:30 A.M.
    ON THE DAY OF THE JUDGING.**
    NO ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 11:30 A.M. Once judging has started absolutely NO exceptions will be made. Please allow for traffic. *NOTE DELIVERY TIMES VARY FOR EVENING CONTESTS*.
  3. The contest is intended for amateur bakers only. Professional bakers or those who earn a significant portion of their livelihood from baking may not enter.
  4. All food becomes the property of the Topsfield Fair.
  5. **TWO recipes, each printed on 1 side of an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, must accompany all exhibits. Please include name, address, and telephone number on the back of each sheet. These become the property of the Topsfield Fair. DO NOT SEND WITH ENTRY FORMS. ALL EVENING CONTESTS SUBMIT 2 COPIES OF RECIPE.
  6. All exhibits must be brought to the fair in a DISPOSABLE container, carefully covered with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. The fair is Not Responsible for the return of plates, pans etc.
  7. NO package mixes will be accepted. Also, no premade or store bought crust.
  8. The food will be judged in the Family Living Center as soon as the display is set and judges are ready.
  9. THE EXHIBITOR WILL BE ADMITTED FREE ONLY AT THE MAIN GATE ENTRANCE. (Paid parking is available opposite the Main Gate on Route 1.)
  10. Anyone who has entered a recipe and won 1st prize cannot enter the same recipe again the next year.
  11. Only one entry per class, per category will be accepted from each exhibitor (i.e. cookies, muffins, etc.)
    RECIPES BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE TOPSFIELD FAIR - ESSEX AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY - INCLUDING PUBLICATION RIGHTS.
  12. Junior class, 5-15. Specify Junior Division and age. Juniors under age 16 are not allowed in evening contests unless specified in contest rules.
  13. All food items become property of the Topsfield Fair.
  14. The decision of contest officials is final.

RED STAR Yeast

One of the favorite locations to celebrate individual creativity in this area is at the county and state fair levels as fairs play an integral part of our culture's baking heritage. In an effort to encourage participation in yeast related baking, RED STAR® Yeast has established a fund to promote such activities and enhance the fine programming the local fairs have accomplished for decades.

We will make RED STAR® Yeast and coupons available to all contestants in any of the food categories. In addition, we will provide three RED STAR® merchandise award items to be given to the winners in the yeast bread categories.

Note: NO cake mixes are allowed in any of the above classes. Heart Smart, Diabetic, sugar free/fat free recipes in each class are also accepted. All Class items may be reheated if oven is available. Prior arrangement is necessary.

There are NO Professional Classes in this year's contest.

King Arthur Flour Favorite Pound Cake

Entry Deadline: October 4, 2016

Contest Date: Thursday, October 6, 2016

Delivery: 4:00 - 6:00 P.M.

Judging: 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. at coolidge hall

Announcements: 9:00 P.M.

Favorite Pound Cake

Adult Category - Ages 18 years and Up

1st place: $75 gift certificate to the Baker's Catalogue

2nd place: $50 gift certificate to the Baker's Catalogue

3rd place: 9" x 13" Cake & Brownie Pan

All winners will also receive a gorgeous ribbon

RULES:

  1. One entry per person, Whole Cake, please. Cake may be frosted, glazed or plain.
  2. Pre-entry form is required and is due as follows: Received by October 4, 2016.
  3. Exhibitor must bring the opened bag of King Arthur Flour or submit a UPC label from the flour bag when he/ she submits the entry.
  4. 1st Place winner from 2015 is not eligible to compete in 2016.
  5. All entries must be submitted on a disposable container for judging.
  6. Judging will be based on the following criteria:
    a. Flavor 50 points
    b. Overall Appearance 25 points
    c. Texture 25 points
    TOTAL 100 points

    Failure to follow the rules may result in disqualification.

* ENTRANTS USE RECIPE OF THEIR OWN CHOICE.

Topsfield Fair Apple Pie Contest

Standard Guidelines

  1. Class open to ages 16 yrs. and older. 2015 FIRST PLACE WINNERS WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE IN 2016 CONTEST.
  2. Recipe may be your own personal favorite or original favorite with complementary ingredients added.
  3. The complete recipe must be submitted with food entry on 1 side of an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. Please include name, address, and telephone number on the back of each sheet. Two copies are required.
  4. Judging based on crust texture, flavor, overall appearance and originality.
  5. All recipes become property of Topsfield Fair.
  6. Pies may be baked in a disposable plate of your choice - either glass or foil.
  7. No premade, store bought, or crust mix allowed.
  8. Recipes will be judged on crust (20%), filling (20%), overall appearance (30%), and overall flavor (30%).

Topsfield Fair Premiums

1ST PLACE $75 plus Gift Basket from Cider Hill Farm, Amesbury and 1/2 Bushel of Apples from Cider Hill Farm.

2ND PLACE $50 plus 1/2 Bushel of Apples from Cider Hill Farm.

3RD PLACE $25 plus Bag of Apples from Cider Hill Farm.

Contest Requirements

  • All "Parent" contestants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the contest. The child must be between the ages of 6 and 17.
  • The contest is intended for amateur bakers only. Professional bakers or those who earn a significant portion of their livelihood from baking may not enter the PARENT-CHILD COOKIE CELBRATION.
  • A parent may enter different cookie recipes with two different children but not two different recipes with the same child. Contestants who submit recipes under someone else's name will be disqualified.
  • Recipes in which the finished entry contains raw/uncooked eggs (whites and/or yolks) MAY NOT be entered. Egg must reach 160 degrees F. to be considered cooked.
  • 6 cookies per plate.
  • Plate decorations are allowed. The fair is not responsible for the return of plates.
  • All entries must be accompanied by the recipe, typewritten or legibly printed on 8 1/2" x 11" paper. (2 copies) Every ingredient must be listed in exact measurements and the type of ingredient must be specified.
  • All recipes become the exclusive property of Topsfield Fair and none will be returned.
  • The fair's general rules and contest policies will apply when there is a question about a rule. However, in the event of a tie, only one First Place winner can be chosen.
  • All pre-registration forms must be submitted to the Fair Entry Department by the date listed in the contest brochure.
  • The 2015 first place winners are not eligible to compete in 2016.

  8. No pre-made or store-bought packaged mixes allowed. Also no packaged or pre-made pie crusts.
  9. Entire baked entry must be submitted for judging.
  10. The 2015 first place winners are not eligible to compete in 2016.
