Exhibitor's Handbook - 2010
Well, here I go with the letter for the Premium Book. With all this nice weather, I have put this letter off until the last minute. It has been a great summer for weather if you like it hot and dry. The heat does make a hard growing season without water! In spite of most of the towns having a water ban on right now, the season is being good to us. The entries are already coming into the office and it won't be long now that the Fair will be in full swing.
Each year so many wonderful items come from all over the county to fill our display areas so that we are bulging at the seams. Every item is put in with so much care and thought that I always find myself amazed by the talent that people have. The last day of the fair becomes the first day for the preparation of next year's new items as the work starts right away.
This is our second year with the Premium Book on-line and it has worked out well. It makes it a lot easier for people to get the information they need to enter items in the fair. We have made some changes this year with the Giant Pumpkin contest moving to Opening Friday night. Some rules have changed for other contests, so please check with your department before you bring your items in to make sure that you have what you need. Changing the take-in dates over the last couple of years has made the ordeal of setting up for the fair much more manageable, and this has worked well for our volunteers. It was not uncommon for volunteers to work for two or three weeks without any breaks to be ready to open the fair on time. With that said, (not to scare away new volunteers!) but we are always looking for more help from our exhibitors who love what they do. This year, when you drop of your item, please ask if you can be part of the team and volunteer to help a few hours to make this the best Fair it can be.
The theme for this year's fair is, "Proud to be Giving Back." Let me explain what this means. Here at the Fair we have a tradition of doing for others in so many ways, by helping the Town where we can, as well as nonprofit groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports teams, Veterans groups, and church groups. This year's opening Saturday will be "Boy Scout Day," in celebration of the 100 years of scouting. Along with that, we will be having a different group at our gates each day so they can promote their own group and make people more aware of the good that they do. In doing what we can, we are asking our guests (customers) to show support to the many groups and friends around us that do great work every day.
The Board of Directors has worked very hard on this year's fair, and we hope that you will enjoy what you see. Take part in a new way that maybe you have not done before. Go out of your comfort zone and help with giving back to someone else, your neighbor or someone that you don't know, in a new and exciting way.
The Fair will be here soon. I look forward to seeing each of you and marveling at each of your great exhibits.
