Crafts Division - General Rules & Regulations

Please read carefully all 15 rules, also all instructions for each division you choose to enter since there are certain age and other requirements to be met. (These rules apply to all Craft Departments, please refer to the other Department entry forms for rules and regulations.)

  1. Entry forms must be received by the dates indicated for each department. LATE ENTRY FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Therefore articles accompanied by entry forms will not be accepted on Receiving Days (Rule 14).
  2. Exhibitors receiving premiums must be strictly amateur. No person who teaches, instructs or judges for financial consideration, or sells any item in the following classes, may enter the Amateur Division. No hobby collections may be exhibited.
  3. As each entry form is received, individual tags will be prepared for each article listed. Tags will be completed and then attached to each article when brought on Receiving Days (rule 14).
  4. SPECIAL CLASS notations must be printed in the uppermost right-hand corner of entry form to qualify for special judging.
    1. JUNIOR CLASS - ALL DIVISIONS
      Junior Class: 16 years of age and under.
      Specify "Junior Division" and age.
    2. ADULT CLASS - 17 years of age and over.
    3. PROFESSIONAL CLASS - Entries must be labeled as "Professional" in the uppermost right hand corner of the entry form. Entries not properly labeled or not accompanied by the proper fee will be disqualified. Professional Class is defined as anyone who accepts financial consideration for teaching their art or for selling their work. Entries must be accompanied by a $5.00 entry fee payable on Receiving Days.
    4. ORIGINAL DESIGN must be labeled as such in the uppermost right-hand corner of entry form in order to qualify for special judging.
  5. ALL ARTICLES MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS AND MUST BE CLEAN. Only ONE entry in each classification. (Example: One each EA1, EA2, EA3, etc.). NO MORE THAN THREE ARTICLES PER ENTRANT.
  6. Articles may be exhibited only once in Coolidge Hall.
  7. Only articles listed on the entry form will be accepted.
  8. If an exhibitor has a homeowner or tenant homeowners package policy, he may have coverage protecting items being exhibited. The exhibitor should contact his insurance agent or company to determine what coverage they have under their policy.
  9. Ribbon awards only for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention, will be awarded at the discretion of qualified judges. Fine quality in the work, artistic coloring, and design are points carefully considered in the judging. No exhibit will be entitled to an award unless it possesses points of superiority (regardless of competition). Judges reserve the right to create additional classes when necessary. More than one type of ribbon may be awarded in each category.
  10. All classes are available to both amateurs and professionals.
  11. Additional entry forms available at the Topsfield Fair office or online.
  12. All exhibits displayed at the discretion of the Building Committee.
  13. Articles MAY NOT be removed before pick-up day. See Rule 15.
  14. RECEIVING DAYS (Does not include Art or Canning): COOLIDGE HALL WILL BE OPEN TO RECEIVE ARTICLES ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 FROM NOON TO 4:00 P.M., AND SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, FROM NOON TO 4:00 P.M. THE BUILDING IS THEN CLOSED TO ARRANGE FOR JUDGING.
  15. PICK-UP DAY: All exhibits will be released on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, from 2:00 P.M. To 6:00 P.M. Exhibitors must have a receipt to obtain their articles. NOT RESPONSIBLE for articles remaining after 6:00 P.M. Those articles will be moved to the Administration Building for pick-up. After 30 Days, crafts become property of the Topsfield Fair.
  16. THE COMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT ANY ENTRY OR EXHIBIT IN ANY CLASS WHICH FAILS TO CONFORM TO REGULATIONS. ENTRANTS WILL BE CONTACTED PRIOR TO THE OPENING OF THE FAIR TO RETRIEVE UNACCEPTED WORK.

    Crafters (aged 18 and older) are invited to volunteer for exhibit monitoring and demonstations. Volunteer schedule will be posted at Receiving Dates (9/15 & 9/16).

Rules & Regulations

  1. Dolls must be signed and completed since previous fair year.
  2. Dolls entered for costume judging must be entered in the sewing/smocking division. The doll itself will not be judged. Items can not be moved between divisions.
  3. All props (mirrors, toys, etc.) must be secured to doll. No separate displays.
  4. All dolls should be firmly secured in their stands for safety purposes.
  5. Dolls are judged by specifics of category, ie.: cleaning of porcelain, China painting, sewing and total presentation.

ENTRY FORM DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 3RD, 2018

PICK-UP DAY: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH, 2 P.M. - 6 P.M.

An acceptable quilt consists of top, batting, and back with top and back made of fabric only. Pieced or appliqued, machine or hand quilted, or tied. All quilts must have a 5" casing on the top edge of the back of the quilt, in order to insert a rod. Quilts without rod pockets will not be accepted. Quilts must be free of pet hair, mold and smoke odors. Quilts longer than 88" will be folded and pinned. Please provide the length and width of the quilt you are entering at Receiving Day. If you would like to share the story of your quilt, please bring it when you drop your quilt off.

Please indicate if quilt has been professionally quilted on entry form.

Judging is based on individual merits on the following critique of overall appearance, color and design and workmanship.
