Rules & Regulations
To be eligible, a contestant must be married, currently living in Essex County with their spouse and at least 18 years of age. Each contestant will submit a prepared food item. This year's category is your favorite appetizers.
Contestants are required to submit a copy of their driver's license and that of their spouse both front and back. Contestants will also have to complete a CORI application as well. The CORI is required by the Essex Agricultural Society, because of contact with children both during the fair and at several events during the year. A CORI application will be mailed to the contestant upon receipt of pageant application.
Contestants are required to arrive at the fairgrounds with their food entry on Saturday, October 6, 2018 between 10:00am and 12:00 noon at Coolidge Hall. Please note that presentation is very important. There will be facilities for reheating and refrigeration. Food winners will be announced the following day at the pageant.
Requirements for submitted food items are:
- Food item MUST be fully prepared. No preparation, other than display setup will be allowed.
- Two copies of the recipe must be available.
- All entries become the property of the fair and will not be returned.
A preliminary interview will be conducted at Coolidge Hall when food entries are submitted. All contestants will receive a phone call by 4:00pm on Saturday to inform whether they will be participating in the pageant on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 2:00pm in Coolidge Hall. Pageant attire is elegant cocktail wear. Contestants will be judged according to the following criteria-general appearance, personality, poise and food score.
Contestants agree that the manner and method of judging shall be solely within the discretion of the Mrs. Essex County Pageant Committee, the Essex Agricultural Society, and that the decision of the judges is final. We reserve the right to limit the number of contestants. Should an unfavorable COR I result be reported, the Essex Agricultural Society and the Mrs. Essex County Pageant Committee retains the right to disqualify the contestant/winner.
Once a winner has been chosen, the new Mrs. Essex County's spouse will then be required to have a CORI check done. Again, the spouse at times will be asked to escort Mrs. Essex County and will have the same access to children.
Entry deadline: Thursday, October 4th, 2018, 10:00 pm.
